Management appointments at Bateman

As part of an initiative to strengthen the senior management of the Company, the Board of Bateman Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Philippe Monier as Chief Financial Officer (designate). The appointment of Philippe will allow Pieter Du Plessis, the current Chief Financial Officer, to resume a key operational role within the Group as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bateman Engineering Projects Strategic Business Unit (“BEP”). He will remain an executive director. In addition Arnold Matthee, the Chief Executive Officer of Bateman Engineered Technologies Strategic Business Unit (“BET”) is being recommended to be appointed as an Executive Director of the Company.

Bateman Engineering’s Chief Executive Officer, Eddie Du Rand, commented: “These appointments strengthen the management team and reporting structure of the group. Philippe has a wealth of experience in the international environment and his skills will add tremendous value. Having Pieter and Arnold on the board as business heads will ensure that the Company is able to react on a timely basis to changes in our challenging markets. With these changes the executive board appointments are now complete.”

Philippe Monier appointed as Chief Financial Officer
Philippe Monier (49) brings with him a strong international financial background. Most recently he was the Chief Financial officer of Green Gas International B.V., a medium sized private equity backed company involved in the conversion of methane emissions from coal mines and landfill sites into clean energy and carbon credits. He has previously held the positions of Chief Financial officer of mining company Dynatec Corporation of Canada; Chief Financial officer of BHP Billiton Base Metals, a division of BHP Billiton; as well as working for nine years as an investment banker with Lehman Brothers’ natural resources corporate finance group.

Philippe’s appointment will be effective from 13 March 2009. His appointment as Chief Financial Officer and executive director will be subject to the approval of shareholders at an extraordinary general to be held in June 2009 (the “EGM”). Notice of meeting will be sent to shareholders in due course.

Pieter Du Plessis to be appointed Chief Executive Officer of BEP
Pieter Du Plessis (49) has in his 18 years with the Bateman Engineering Group held key operational, financial and commercial positions. His appointment as BEP CEO will add considerable strength to this key business. Pieter’s appointment will be effective from 13 March 2009.
The position of BEP CEO has been in the temporary care of the Group CEO, Eddie Du Rand, since the Company was restructured in 2008.

Arnold Matthee to be appointed as Executive Director
Arnold Matthee (53), is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Bateman Engineered Technologies Strategic Business Unit, a position he has held since he joined the Bateman Engineering group in November 2001. Prior to joining the Company, he was Managing Director of Thyssen Krupp Materials Handling and served on the board of the holding company, Thyssen Krupp Engineering Pty Ltd, in South Africa. He spent four years with the ABB Group as General Manager of the ABB Feralin Projects Division in South Africa, where he gained extensive project, manufacturing, construction and industrial relations
