NOSA regional winners head for NOSHCON 2009

Posted on 04 August 2009

NOSA, a subsidiary of MICROmega Holdings and a leading supplier of occupational risk management services and products, recently held its Eastern Regional Awards banquet. Over 120 companies and 45 individuals were recognised during the event for their dedication to health and safety in the workplace.

Companies that are NOSA clients are rewarded based on the score they receive during their annual grading audit. Outcomes are reached by measuring specific safety, health and environmental indicators.

Overall, three Regional Award banquets were held: a Western Cape regional banquet, a Central and Northern regional banquet and an Eastern regional banquet.

Already in its 48th year, NOSHCON is the biggest annual occupational risk management conference and exhibition in Africa, and attracts delegates from all over the globe. A popular part of the NOSHCON programme every year is the International Awards Banquet, during which these awards are handed out. This year’s banquet will take place on 28 August, the final day of the conference.

In addition to the national and international awards, once a company has distinguished itself as a regional winner, it can set its sights on the ultimate occupational health and safety accolade: a NOSCAR. To receive the coveted NOSCAR, companies must score 95% or more for effort measured during a NOSA grading audit, record a disabling incident frequency rating of 0.8 or less and retain these scores for three years.

“The NOSA regional banquets are held in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban and are for our clients who haven’t yet achieved NOSCAR status,” says Justin Hobday, managing director of NOSA. “The final function for 2009 will be at NOSHCON at the end of August in the Drakensburg, when we honour our international winners and top manufacturing, commercial and mining companies of the year.”
